Chowdeck Try Outs: Classic Bolè

Share

Hello Chowstars, Denise here!

Today on Try Outs, I'm taking my palate on a trip south to enjoy one of its most popular delicacies from Abuja-based restaurant, Classic Bolè. I'm trying bole and fish today! Looking for where to buy bole and fish in Abuja and have it delivered to you? Look no further!

As someone who grew up in the south of Nigeria, Port Harcourt to be precise, bole and fish holds a deeply special place in my heart. The sweet scent of roasted plantains, spicy roasted fish, and peppery palm oil sauce wafting through Elekahia Housing Estate, flirting with your senses and beckoning on all who may be passing by to pause and eat to their fills is a foundational experience for all who have lived in or visited The Garden City.

Classic Bolè serves an authentic slice of Port Harcourt in Abuja, Nigeria's capital city, and delivers from Chowdeck to central areas within the city including Jahi, Maitama, Garki, Jabi, Utako, Mabushi, Katampe, Kado, Wuye, Central Business Area, Apo, Gudu, Life Camp, 1st Avenue, Asokoro, Jahi, and Wuse, amongst others.

For my meal, I tried the Over Ripe Bolè, Roasted Fish (Middle and Tail), and Peppered Pomo. I had a smile on my face the minute I opened the package because the meal smelled absolutely divine! I literally could not wait to dig in. The Over Ripe Bolè was beautifully roasted and delicious. At NGN 600 per portion, I had two portions of plantain and I was satisfied with the size of the portion given its price point. The plantains and fish came wrapped in aluminium foil.

I really enjoyed the fish! The Roasted Fish Middle and Tail cost me NGN 500 and NGN 600 respectively, and I'm thrilled I got two! One portion would not have been enough to satisfy me given how much I liked the fish. It was flavourful, well spiced, and beautifully roasted, just like the plantains.

In addition to the bole and fish, I had two portions of Peppered Pomo at NGN 200 per portion just because I really like pomo. It was really soft, well flavoured, and tasted great with the meal.

The pepper sauce was the real star of the show! Every bole and fish connoisseur knows the flavours in the sauce can make or break your meal, and I'm so glad the sauce banged as much as it did. It came in its own plastic container, which can also be used to store the plantains and roasted fish if you want to have them later on.
